During these discussions, the leaders emphasized their commitment to deepening bilateral ties, including collaboration in areas such as trade and investment, connectivity, energy, education, health care, climate change, migration, people-to-people exchanges, and regional cooperation.
Participants included Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu; Bhutan Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay; Indian Parliament Speaker Om Birla; Pakistan’s Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary; Nepal Foreign Minister Bala Nanda Sharma; Sri Lanka’s Health and Mass Media Minister Nalinda Jayatissa; and UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Indo-Pacific Seema Malhotra.
The visiting leaders also made individual courtesy calls on Rahman, representing their governments during the ceremony.
Rahman reaffirmed his pledge to collaborate closely with partners across South Asia and beyond, aiming to strengthen bilateral relations and foster peace, stability, and prosperity throughout the region.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader was officially sworn in as the nation’s 11th prime minister and becomes the first male head of government since 1991. He is set to lead the 300-seat Parliament and a 49-member Cabinet for a five-year tenure.
